Scott A. Vieira Jr was born in New Bedford, MA on May 9, 1985. Born to Donna and Scott Vieira. He has one older sister, by the name of Amanda Adams who lives in Montague, MI. When he was 8 years old, Scott and his family moved to Columbia, TN where he attended McDowell Elementary School. He later went on to attend Whithorne Middle School, until they moved to Summertown, TN within Lawrence County. From 7th grade until his senior year of high school, Mr. Vieira attended Summertown Middle School and Summertown High School. At the age of 17, Mr. Vieira and his parents moved back to New Bedford, MA, where he finished high school, at B.M.C. Durfee High in Fall River, MA. At the age of 17, fueled by the events of September 11, 2001, he entered into the Delayed Entry Program of the United States Marine Corps. On July 6, 2003, shortly after graduating high school, Mr. Vieira was sent to Parris Island to attend Marine Corps Recruit training. He freely elected, before he went to bootcamp, to have the Military Occupational Specialty as an 0300 (Infantry) in the Marines. Upon graduating from Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., he went on to attend the Infantry Training Battalion (ITB) at Camp Geiger, Camp Lejuene, N.C. During his time there, he was able to pick his Military Occupational Specialty (MOS), and he chose 0351 aka Infantry Assault Man. From there, he was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA with 3rd Battalion 1st Marines, Company K. He got to Camp Pendleton in January of 2004, and automatically began to train for his first deployment to Iraq. In June of 2004, Mr. Vieira was deployed to Al Karma, Iraq, outside the city of Al Fallujah, Iraq. He participated in the “2nd Battle of Fallujah” beginning on November 9, 2004. In September of 2005, Mr. Vieira was deployed a second time to Iraq. First in the city of Hit. His battalion was then moved to the Haditha Dam and the city of Haditha, Iraq, where they conducted operations in support of the fight against terrorism. After his second tour, Mr. Vieira was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and alcoholism. He went on to attend a 30 Substance Abuse Program at Point Loma, CA. Also during this time, Mr. Vieira met his first wife and mother of his two children, Maria Ann Vieira and Timothy Jude Vieira. During his 3rd deployment, Mr. Vieira was called home, while on the U.S.S. Bonhomme Richard attached to the 31st Marine Expenditionary Unit (MEU), after a week, as his daughter was born with a medical condition, and the doctors were unsure she would survive. During this time, Mr. Vieira, under a lot of stress with his daughter, his PTSD, and the Marine Corps, went UA (unauthorized absence) for a period of 287 days. He was returned to the Marine Corps at Marine Corps Base, Quantico, VA, where he under went a Special Court Martial. While Mr. Vieira was convicted of going UA, between his medical doctors and psychologists, the judge believed Mr. Vieira’s UA was caused by PTSD, and recommended a medical discharge. Mr. Vieira decided to leave the Marine Corps with a General Under Honorable Conditions discharge, instead of waiting for a lengthy medical discharge. He left service in August of 2008. During this time, Mr. Vieira lived in various places, allowing his PTSD to get the better of him. Finally settling down in New Bedford, MA again in 2010. During this time, still denying to get help for his mental health and chronic pain, Mr. Vieira ended up getting addicted to heroin and cocaine. In 2013, Mr. Vieira returned to Lawrenceburg, TN and began a 60 day detox, without the help of medical professionals. When he was done detoxing, Mr. Vieira began to get himself help with his mental health. Since 2013, Mr. Vieira has been sober and only taking prescription medications as prescribed. In 2016, Mr. Vieira was involved in an altercation with a group of people, where 2 individuals were stabbed. Mr. Vieira was charged and convicted of 2 counts of aggravted assault in January 2018. He spent 3 months in the Lawrence County Jail and 3 months at the Mental Health Recovery and Rehabilaition Treatment Program (MHRRTP) at the Alvin C. York Veterans Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN. Since his incarceration, Mr. Vieira has moved to Waverly, TN, where he currently resides. Himself, his fiance Ms. Heather Ashby, and their 4 children, Maria, Timothy, Albert, and Heath, have been living in Waverly for 3 years now and are your average, regular American family.
